The second West Ealing Liveable Neighbourhoods Stakeholder Group was held on 9th May. In West Ealing BID attended to represent businesses across the Core Area and beyond.
Hosted by Sustrans, the aim of the session was:
- To understand some of the types of interventions that could be funded by the Liveable Neighbourhood programme funding
- To develop ambitious ideas for West Ealing as a result of exploring examples of innovative Healthy Streets schemes
- To have a clear understanding of what’s next for the programme
The group looked at the Healthy Streets wheel and looked at projects elsewhere that had successfully met these aims to consider what might work in West Ealing. This included initiatives such as using planting and greenery to change how a space feels and how people use it, sustainable drainage systems that aim to store or reuse surface water like rainfall at street level, decreasing the strain on our drainage network and improving water quality or incorporating playful street furniture that encourages interaction with public spaces.
The group were then encouraged to identify key areas in West Ealing that would benefit from similar schemes or to provide other ideas.
Next on the agenda was a presentation from Retail Revival who have been commissioned by the Council to carry out a shop and spend and satisfaction survey of visitors to West Ealing. They will also carry out a survey of 150 businesses in the core area to gather feedback and to understand priorities for businesses.
Finally, the group was introduced to Steer Davies Gleave, consultants commissioned by the Council to develop, elaborate, and add to the funding bid proposals to feasibility study stage and to submit a successful Gate 2 submission to TfL to secure funding for concept and detailed design.
